Roulette Table Layout: Differences and Peculiarities

LayOut Game

The role of a roulette table layout is pretty simple actually: it helps players to determine their bets and place roulette chips in accordance with the chosen bet for a croupier to see everything clearly.

As far as it is known, there are 2 types of roulette wheels (American and European ones) the same at online roulette; so, it is clear that roulette table layouts for them also differ a bit. Moreover, sometimes your winning at roulette depends on following the obligatory options which every casino has for sure, no matter whether it is online, or traditional casino.

American Roulette table

The green table layout for playing American Roulette consists of 38 sectors, as well as American roulette wheel: 36 colorful black and red sectors for players to see clearly what bets they make and 2 zeros sectors - 0 and 00.

A player will clearly see where to place inside or outside bets; the following sectors can be noticed on the roulette table surface:

  • Two sectors for making High/Low bets: 1 to 18 and 19 to 36
  • 3 sectors for Dozen bets: 1st 12, 2nd 12, 3rd 12
  • Two sectors for Color bets: Red, Black
  • Two sectors for Even/Odd bets: Odd, Even
  • 3 sectors for Column bets

The important role here is played by a dolly - a special thing for marking a winning number: a croupier places the figure of a dolly on a table surface for all players to see clearly the number which has won.

European Roulette table

There are no big differences between American and European roulette table layouts: the same sectors, the same dolly and the same bets except one:

You will not be able to place Five-Number bet because European table for roulette does not have a 00 sector on its surface, so it is impossible to make a bet on 0-00-1-2-3.

This is actually the only one difference that can be found between American and European Roulette table layouts.

The interesting thing is that it is possible to meet one more type of roulette table - French roulette table: it is used for French Roulette, it has one zero sector too but it is a little bit bigger and wider that other tables. Other differences of this table include:

  • The opportunity to use regular casino chips instead of special roulette ones
  • A special person "a stickman" to announce a winner
  • All sectors of a table are red, but this is just a design.
